This project explores the application of computational text analysis and distant reading in the fields of comparative religious studies, sociology, and online communication. Using Reddit as a source, the study focuses on three major religious subreddits: Christianity, Islam, and Occult. The corpus consists of over 700,000 comments and around 50 million tokens collected over a year. The analysis includes measures such as word frequencies, bigrams, collocations, sentiment, and emotion analysis to compare the language used, topics discussed, and sentiments expressed across different online communities. Additionally, the study explores diachronic analysis and visualization techniques. The paper concludes with a discussion on the limitations and benefits of distant reading methods in religious studies.
