This study explores the impact of offline gatherings ('meetups') on virtual communities, a topic previously overlooked in research focusing on how online interactions influence offline communities. The findings indicate that while meetups strengthen social ties among attendees and enhance their engagement with the virtual community, leading to increased bonding social capital, they simultaneously weaken ties with non-attendees. This shift results in the loss of bridging social capital, as interactions become more concentrated among those who participate in offline gatherings.
