This study proposes a multi-dimensional approach to understanding social presence, incorporating sensory, affective, and cognitive dimensions. It examines their impact on virtual community participation, with extrinsic and intrinsic motivation as potential mediators. Empirically tested with 430 individuals, the results support the multi-dimensional conceptualization of social presence and its effects on participation, although no significant mediating effects of motivational factors were found. The study offers theoretical insights and practical implications for understanding and fostering online community engagement.
