This study investigates the participation of various age groups in online communities among the Czech population, focusing on 862 Internet users from a total sample of 1,586 respondents. Conducted in September 2007 through face-to-face interviews, the findings reveal that older adolescents (ages 16-19) are the most active in virtual groups, with participation declining with age. Adolescents appear to engage more freely in these communities, potentially finding them more enriching to their lives compared to other age groups. This heightened activity is attributed to adolescents' general desire for social interaction and their ongoing identity development processes.
