This paper presents a case study on implementing 'language games' as a pedagogical tool for analyzing, assessing, and promoting collaborative knowledge building in online learning dialogues. Focused on a senior-level university course on Global Change, the study explores the method's strengths, weaknesses, and limitations. Analyzing sequences of online dialogues through a theoretical lens of language games, the paper discusses its benefits compared to other theoretical approaches and its potential as an instructional tool for authentic collaborative online learning.
