This study investigates the evaluation of an online community's value within a corporate setting by examining "active lurking" practices, categorized into independent (informal context) and connecting (linked to formal organizational structure) practices. Through a questionnaire distributed to 2,584 participants across two types of online communities within a large manufacturing company, and semi-structured interviews with 102 participants, the research concludes that a practice-based evaluation offers valuable insights for managers and designers of online communities, aiding in understanding, evaluating, and managing the community's practical impacts on business activities.
