This paper examines the impact of user-generated content (UGC), YouTube, and participatory culture on music learning and teaching within online communities, using the Online Academy of Irish Traditional Music (OAIM) and the Banjo Hangout as case studies. It highlights how the diverse use of UGC, like YouTube videos, in these participatory online music communities influences music education both online and offline, drawing on key insights from new media research.
