This study explores the impact of social motivations, specifically network externalities and social norms, on member commitment in online communities (OCs). Analyzing data from 396 undergraduate students, the research finds that both network externalities and social norms significantly influence social interaction ties and commitment to an OC. It highlights the importance of social motivations in fostering member commitment, suggesting that OC administrators should focus on these aspects to enhance community engagement.
