Wojcik and Monnoyer-Smith (2012) compared offline and online deliberation through a series of experiments. They found that the quality of online deliberation depends on the context and the design of the online platform. They concluded that online deliberation can be improved through the design of appropriate participation mechanisms and the provision of feedback on participants' contributions.
