This paper examines the impact of digital social currency, specifically through the lens of WeChat Red Packet, on social experiences and group dynamics within online communities. By conducting an archival analysis of Red Packet activities in 16 WeChat groups, surveying 300 users, and interviewing 20 participants, the study delves into Chinese users' perceptions and behaviors surrounding monetary gifting on social networking platforms.
