This paper investigates the roles of Twitter in digital libraries (DLs) and how these roles contribute to building online DL communities. Through mixed method analysis of tweets from 15 DLs over a year, 15 types of Twitter roles were identified across five categories: information, promotion, related resources, social identity, and social connection. The study used the Pearson correlation coefficient to analyze the relationships among these roles, finding stronger relationships within four categories but weaker ones in the information category. It discusses the characteristics of DL online communities, suggests improvements for tweets, and emphasizes the importance of engagement for building a strong community.
