This study explores why individuals experiencing life transitions seek out separate online networks for support, based on interviews with 28 participants. It highlights the challenges these individuals face in their usual social media circles, such as stigmatization, and the difficulties in finding alternative online spaces. The research offers insights into the support received from waiting contributors and virtual friends in these networks and suggests improvements for online platforms, including better search functionalities, promoting contribution, and providing context-sensitive sharing templates.
