This paper explores the concept of imagined communities, as defined by Anderson, within the context of TripAdvisor, suggesting that TripAdvisor embodies the characteristics of an imagined community. Through a content analysis of tourist comments on the top ten restaurants in Azores and Hawaii from 2013, involving 686 customers and 813 reviews, the study investigates whether elements such as special language, idea association, cohesion, membership, interaction, and the presence of experts contribute to creating an online community on TripAdvisor. This novel application of the imagined communities concept to tourism studies and online communities offers both theoretical and practical insights into online travel communication through user reviews.
