  • Self-esteem (in context of reciprocity)

Self-esteem refers to an individual's subjective evaluation of their self-worth, encompassing feelings of self-acceptance, self-value, and self-confidence. In the context of reciprocity, self-esteem is influenced by the quality and nature of reciprocal relationships. When individuals experience positive interactions and receive validation, support, and recognition from others, it can enhance their self-esteem. Conversely, negative or unbalanced reciprocity, where individuals feel unappreciated or receive unfair treatment, can diminish self-esteem.

In an online community, self-esteem can be influenced by the reciprocity of interactions and feedback received from other community members. Positive and supportive interactions, such as receiving constructive feedback, recognition for contributions, or engaging in meaningful discussions, can contribute to a sense of validation and boost self-esteem within the online community. Conversely, negative experiences such as online harassment, exclusion, or unfair treatment can undermine self-esteem and impact one's participation and well-being. Fostering a culture of respect, empathy, and fair reciprocity within the online community is crucial for promoting positive self-esteem among its members and creating a supportive environment that encourages active engagement and participation.
