Moving from one software to another

Do you think vendors support our freedom to switch software? How open are importers when it comes to customer preference?

I have never done this but I know a lot of forum owners have switched form one software to another. I don't know how much effort did the owner put on migration on the backend but from the front end it was good.

There are plugins and add-ons that will help you migrate from one forum software to another forum software. Migrating into a paid forum sofware is easier than migrating into open source software.

This is going to depend on how mature the platform is. 

Paid forum services usually support a conversion from a competitor software, or you can always do a custom conversion.

I think free forums have a broader approach when it comes to moving between platforms than paid options.

I have a few times moved from one platform vendor to the other and have been able to do so without any issues or blocks in place that made it difficult. 

I find some of the premium software tend to have an option for you to move from one platform to another which is often the most popular.
